President's Message

07/01/2010

I hope you are enjoying the excitement of summertime.  It’s hard to believe the first half of 2010 is over. We are grateful for your attendance at our May conference.  By way of your feedback, we seem to agree it was a huge success.  Our board members worked tirelessly organizing speakers and announcements, hotel accommodations, meeting rooms and gathering donations for our gift bags.  Thanks to our board members for a job well-done.  We owe a special “Thanks!” to Ed Ford for the generous random prize drawing donations for the close of the meeting. I hope you have tuned into Matt Townsend on Studio Five or KSL radio on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m.  Wasn’t he great?

Our 2010 conference provided a great opportunity to achieve two of our key  goals: to gather together as a group of Compensation & Benefits professionals to learn best practices from experts in the field; and to network with one another.  .  We hope you are incorporating some of the “best practices” ideas at your workplace.  We partner with WorldatWork in providing a place to learn, experience, connect, validate and apply principles and practices for those who perform total rewards work, and to raise awareness among those who impact total rewards.

Please mark October 6 on your calendar for another great meeting.  Our guest speaker, Cara Welch, is from World at Work and recently co-authored the article, “Health-Care Reform Law; Implementation Timeline.” http://www.worldatwork.org/waw/Content/publicpolicy/hcr-implementation-timeline.jsp  Cara’s expertise is Public Policy and Health Care.  With health care policy changing daily, this session gives you a better understanding of how to prepare for a smooth transition to mandatory updates.  You can follow Cara’s blog at worldatwork.org/blogs.

Please let me know if you have specific questions/concerns that  can be addressed at an upcoming meeting or in a news article.  We appreciate your involvement and energy.  I look forward to seeing each of you in October.

Warm healthy regards,
Jan Smith, ICBA President
